Date Constructed/ Founded: ca. 1775

Historical Notes: William Adams was a first cousin to President John Adams, and a steam boat captain out of Natchez. He migrated from Pennsylvania to establish plantations in Mississippi and Louisiana. He owned Solitary Valley Plantation in Adams County, Mississippi. He also owned four other plantations. Adams Place (Yazoo County, MS), Cerro Gordo (Tensas Parish, LA), the home plantation in Adams County, and one in Warren County, MS. William bequeathed Cerro Gordo Plantation to his granddaughter Clarisa Flower. He willed to his son-in-law, James R. Ballance, husband of Elizabeth Adams, the majority of his vast holdings in Louisiana and Mississippi. Later, James Ballance deeded each of the Adams boys a plantation. James kept Adams Place in Yazoo County, Mississippi. He and Elizabeth were buried at Solitary Valley Plantation.
