Historical Notes: Jacob Belser’s plantation was one of many cotton plantations in the High Hills of Santee in South Carolina. According to his will, by 1833 Belser’s plantation consisted of 3000 acres on which 50 or more enslaved African-Americans lived and worked for the Belser family.
