Historical Notes: Valentine Mayo was born in 1665. His father James Mayo was from Isle of Wight County, VA. By 1717, after Valentine’s death in 1716, the Christ Church Parish Register of Middlesex County, VA had recorded enslaved persons as owned by by his wife Anne Mayo. Their son James Mayo (b.1711) went on to establish a plantation in Albemarle Co., VA.
